Several concerning issues involving male idols have recently emerged. One such case involves an idol who was a member of a boy group that debuted in 2017 [name withheld for privacy]. He is currently 28 years old and worked as a rapper.
It was reported that the accused filmed his girlfriend during intimate moments without her consent. On the 30th of this month, Judge Hong Da Sun from the 4th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court sentenced the former idol, Choi, who was charged with illegal filming and sharing of the videos under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, to one year and six months in prison.
In addition, the court ordered the idol to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program and restricted him from working in any institution related to children, youth, or individuals with disabilities for three years after serving his sentence.
The court stated, "The crime of illegal filming causes shame and embarrassment to the victims, who have the right to refuse such actions and to not be filmed without their knowledge. It raises concerns that they may become targets of illegal filming without their awareness, leading to serious social issues."
The court continued, "The degree of rights violation in situations involving intimate relations is extremely severe, and the victims are expected to suffer psychological pain." The court noted that the accused admitted to the crime and is reflecting on his actions.
Choi is accused of secretly filming sexual scenes and significant portions of the victim’s body 18 times between July 2022 and May of last year while they were dating. He committed the crime by covering the victim with a cloth and secretly recording her with a camera.
Choi is also accused of filming another woman he met at a bar in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in her underwear four times in July of last year. Reports indicate that the police have identified three victims so far.
Meanwhile, Choi debuted as a member of a five-member boy group in 2017 and stopped his activities in 2019 due to health reasons.
