HYBE Cancels Album Purchase Requirement for Jin's 'Free Hugs' Event After Fan Backlash

HYBE has scrapped its plan for an event that Jin suggested.

Yesterday, BTS shared the schedule for BTS FESTA 2024, their yearly celebration leading up to the group's anniversary.

Jin will finish his military service on June 12th. The next day, June 13th, he plans to meet BTS fans in person at the Jamsil Arena in Seoul.

Jin wanted to make this special by organizing a "free hugs" event where fans could hug him or shake his hand.

However, HYBE announced that fans needed to buy albums to enter a lottery for a chance to join Jin's "free hugs" event. They said fans had to buy as many albums as possible between June 2nd and June 6th to be eligible.

This caused a lot of complaints from fans, who accused HYBE of trying to profit by making fans buy a lot of albums and taking advantage of Jin's kind intentions.

Fans also pointed out that HYBE's plan was bad for the environment, even though the agency claims to support environmental causes.

In the end, HYBE announced they were canceling this plan and promised to come up with a new way for fans to participate.
